Figure Drawings

I was a student at Jamestown Community College from 2019-2021. I studied both Fine Art and Psychology.

The work below was my first experience with having nude models AND practicing figure drawings.

Front Facing

I practiced trying many different types of figure drawings. Different people, different objects, different bodies, and varying times to complete.

Side facing

Back facing

If you look closely you can see where I first started to use shapes and lines to find the position and sizes of different anatomy.

Ex. Left photo- his leg and back have lines made with pencil below the charcoal.

Objects

Charcoal, no erasing.

Everyone in class brings in an object and puts it in the center.

Graded by completion and skill.

Practice in finding the overall shape and position was the exercise more than the object itself. As you can see there are straight lines around some objects to help me dignify where the shape is facing and what angles they represented.

Object on left: Pen

Object on right: Charcoal

Trialed in finding a new technique. Using new Objects. Time limit was 30 min each.

Graded by completion and skill.

This allowed me to further learn depth perception and apply it to a drawing.

My College Experience 2019-2021:

Unfortunately, My art degree was a bit of a let down. The original teacher had retired but the school hadn't hired a replacement ahead of time. This happened the middle of second semester.

They had put the ceramics teacher in place and they were just for supervision and giving course material without knowing how to correctly help students. Then (of course) covid hit and this is where we found out Fine Art... Online... taught by a ceramics teacher... Is NOT the same as in person.

They hadn't been able to find a replacement for the rest of the time I was in school.

Even so I am extremely great full for the opportunity to meet with so many like-minded people and experience college all together!
